The Anthony Chapel at the Garvan Woodland Gardens
Maurice Jennings + David McKee Architects Hot Springs, Arkansas The chapel will provide a place for simple religious services, cultural events, and quiet meditation amidst the forested setting of the Garvan Woodland Gardens. From the native stone base, the wood structure rises fifty-seven feet to form a canopy over the worship space not unlike the trees themselves. The wood columns branch, forming a lattice of "limbs" overhead. This "branching" is aligned on a diagonal with the opposing column, creating a structure reminiscent of English Gothic fan vaulting. The glass infill in all exterior walls permits a transparency that allows the chapel to become one with its surroundings. |
