Maurice Jennings + David McKee Architects, 2000

The program asked for a sacristy, reconciliation chapel, organ loft, and sanctuary that would satisfy the functional requirements of learning and the liturgical aspects of worship services, as well as provide an uplifting spiritual environment through the architecture. The solution is a traditional narthex, nave, and chancel arrangement. The sacristy, small chapel, and reconciliation spaces are tucked under the organ loft. The structural system, with its lacework of cross-bracing and metal connections, is a more contemporary interpretation of the rich interiors found historically in Episcopal Church architecture. The geometric interplay overhead is enhanced by the ever- changing play of shadows and light from the large overhead skylight. The Chapel, existing classrooms, and administrative offices are linked by a courtyard. In 2003, the Chapel of the Apostles received the Arkansas chapter AIA Honor Award. In 2004, the building received a Gulf States Region AIA Honor Citation Award.
